چکیده

Uveal melanoma is the most common primary ocular malignancy in whites and represents 70% of all primaryocularmalignancies. Inpatients with metastatic uveal melanoma, the prognosis for those with initial metastasistotheliverisparticularlypoor. The median survival of patients who first develop liver metastasis from uveal melanoma is 5 to 7 months, as compared with 18 months for other initial sites of metastasis. This poor prognosiscontinuesdespitetreatment modalities such as chemoembolization. Wereportacaseofuvealmelanoma with initial metastasis to the liver in a patient who survived for more than 5 years after diagnosis of liver metastasis.

Long-term survival in a patient with unresectable liver metastases from uveal melanoma treated with transarterial chemoembolization with irinotecan eluting beads – case report and review of literature

Introduction Treatment of unresectable liver metastases (LM) from uveal melanoma (UM) remains a major clinical challenge. Systemic chemotherapy and chemoimmunotherapy regimens extrapolated from cutaneous melanoma are considered to be ineffective in therapy of metastases from uveal melanoma. Studies suggest that the progression of hepatic metastases rather than the primary tumor or metastases in...

Long-Term Survivors with Metastatic Uveal Melanoma

BACKGROUND To report the tumor, patient, and treatment characteristics of long-term metastatic uveal melanoma survivors. METHODS A non-comparative, retrospective case series of patients from a single institution surviving >24 months with metastatic uveal melanoma (UM). RESULTS Nine patients met the study criteria and their charts were reviewed. The mean age at diagnosis of UM was 44.1 years...

Screening for uveal melanoma metastasis. Literature review.

Local tumour control in uveal melanoma has improved in the last decades. However, 5-year mortality due to metastases from large uveal melanomas remains high. Recently both isolated liver perfusion therapy and chemotherapy have reached encouraging results in improving metastasis survival. As such screening at an early stage, especially for liver metastases, becomes imperative.

Role of epidermal growth factor receptor in the metastasis of intraocular melanomas.

PURPOSE To explore the expression and function of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression on human uveal melanoma cells. METHODS Five human uveal melanoma cell lines were examined by flow cytometry for the expression of EGFR. The correlation between EGFR expression and metastasis of uveal melanoma cells was tested in a nude mouse model of intraocular melanoma. The effect of EGFR on...

Hepatic metastasis from uveal melanoma: angiographic pattern predictive of survival after hepatic arterial chemoembolization.

OBJECTIVE To identify clinical features associated with survival after hepatic arterial chemoembolization (HACE) for uveal melanoma metastasis. METHODS Retrospective case series including 11 men and 10 women with uveal melanoma metastasis. RESULTS The hepatic angiographic pattern of metastasis was infiltrative in 12 patients (57%) and nodular in 9 patients (43%). The infiltrative pattern wa...
